The Caithness Community Partnership (CCP) is one of nine Community Partnerships across Highland dedicated to tackling inequalities. Bringing together public sector partners, third sector organisations, and local agencies, CCP serves as a collaborative forum to identify shared local priorities and coordinated actions. Through shared resources, joint initiatives, and collaborative working, the CCP aims to improve service delivery and address community needs. This collective effort reflects a commitment to community engagement and making meaningful, positive changes that benefit everyone in the Caithness area.

Caithness Challenge

Caithness is a beautiful, rugged and remote part of the Scottish Highlands. To reach Caithness you travel north of Inverness on the famously scenic ‘North Coast 500’ route to the far right hand corner of the Scottish mainland. The town of Thurso is the last stop before travelling by ferry to the Orkney and Shetland Islands, while Castletown is a thriving, rural village on the road from Thurso towards John O’Groats.

This report is a snapshot of the Caithness Challenge work, facilitated by the Innovation Unit in 2023, with individuals and communities in this very specific, very special place. But it’s also a glimpse of what people and places can do when they come together, be creative, listen, connect and value the place they are in. People, relationships and a sense of ‘let’s try this’ lead to innovation: finding ways of moving forward, together, for the benefit of everyone. Some of the challenges of Caithness are unique, but most are common shared challenges. The story and learning from the Caithness Challenge is useful for those who are looking to make change happen in their place.
