About Mental Health & Wellbeing Delivery Group 

The overall vision for the Mental Health & Wellbeing Delivery Group in the current Highland Outcome Improvement Plan is that:

“People in Highland will benefit from good mental health and wellbeing”

 The main priorities of the Mental Health & Wellbeing Delivery Group are:

  • Tackling Stigma & Employers Attitudes
  • Working & Responding Together
  • Inclusion Intervention & Peer Support

The Mental Health & Wellbeing Delivery Group is Chaired by Cathy Steer, Head of Health Improvement, NHS Highland.

Plans & Priorities 

The Mental Health & Wellbeing Delivery Group carried out a review of priorities, actions, and structures in 2023 to improve mental health and wellbeing and prevent suicide in Highland. This review included engagement with partners and stakeholders.

Previous priorities and plans for the Mental Health & Wellbeing Delivery Group were developed prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and much of the work over the past few years has been in response to the pandemic. Adapting communications and training delivery to more online formats, carrying out needs assessment work, and raising awareness of the variety of support available for mental health in response to the impact that Covid-19 has had on the wellbeing of our communities. Additionally, recent socio-economic issues and the cost-of-living crisis have exacerbated many of the risk factors that contribute to poor mental health.

Highland Mental Wellbeing Website 

The website below contains a list of services, information and training around the subject of Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Highlands. It can be confusing to know where to start with online information, so it aims to help by highlighting some of the best websites and sources of help. It also provides information about training and resources for community/service volunteers or paid staff, in a ‘helping’ or supporting role.

Prevent Suicide Highland App

The Prevent Suicide Highland mobile app has information and support to help someone who may be distressed or at risk of suicide.

It includes help to have conversations about suicide, signs to look out for and support for anyone bereaved by suicide.

Stay safer by developing your own safety plan and find contact details for local services across the Highland area.

The app is free and is available for both Android and iPhone.
